Doug Young's solo exhibition General Dynamics explored the ego of man and the arrogance of governmental power.
Van Doren Waxter presented Doug Young’s wooden sculptures “Chains” in the architectural niches of their lobby. Each sculpture utilized 3 sections of 35-foot chains of hand-carved Eastern pine assembled into seamless chains. The dramatic scale and the re-contextualization of these industrial links within a domestic space promoted a tension between the natural and manmade worlds, and a sense of awe in regards to man’s technological prowess over nature.
